Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility for funding is determined based on due diligence and assessment of the following:


  • Services to benefit the residents of Lancaster County (note: the Snyder Fund also benefits Cumberland County)
  • Current 501(c)(3) designation from the IRS
  • Registered with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Charitable Organizations unless otherwise exempt per the Institutions of Purely Public Charity Act
  • IRS Form 990
  • Annual Audit or a financial review by an independent CPA within the last 12 months
  • In good standing with all existing awards and contracts with the Lancaster County Community Foundation

Please note the Community Foundation will not typically fund:

  • Creation of new organization
  • Schools
  • Capital campaigns/capital costs (equipment, building costs, maintenance)
  • Political campaigns
  • Expenses incurred before the grant is awarded
  • Cemetery associations
  • Religious causes that further a specific belief/agenda
  • Individuals

Our passion grants improve our county in a number of ways, through supporting programming in a broad range of focus areas including: healthcare, the environment, restoring historical structures, human rights/inclusion, the arts, preschool child development, and projects in Eastern Lancaster County. The application deadline was May 17.

Our scholarships connect generous donors with enterprising students. We offer both general scholarships and school-specific scholarships.

General Scholarships for 2018-19

The Lancaster County Community Foundation’s general scholarship application is now open – apply by February 4, 2019. In addition to completing the online application, students will need to upload a complete transcript and applicant reference form. Check back here for a link to the online scholarship application!

Scholarships include:

Joseph and Claudine Hess – available to all Lancaster County students regardless of field of study. $2,000 per year, renewable.

Albert S. Rosman – available to Conestoga Valley High School students regardless of field of study. $1,400 for one year.

James R. Buescher – available to Lancaster County students planning a course of study in Creative Writing, Journalism, Marketing, Mass Communication, and Media Studies. $500 for one year.

George W. McKibbin – available to African American students from Lancaster County. $2,000 per year, renewable.

Charles W. Shoff – available to Lancaster County students planning a course of study in Geology, Medicine, Agriculture, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Drafting. $1,000 per year, renewable.

Jason M. Truitt – available to any current, graduating high school senior or recent graduate who is or was a Big or Little with Big Brother Big Sisters of Lancaster County. $350 for one year.

The Community Foundation is a participating partner in PHEAA’s PATH (Partnerships for Access to Higher Education) program, which means that some of our scholarship awards could be matched by PHEAA on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $2,500.

Students attending the schools below who are interested in learning more about these scholarships and obtaining application materials are encouraged to contact their school’s guidance or financial aid department and inquire about the fund listed.

2. Lampeter-Strasburg High School (Frank A. Wint Memorial Fund)
3. Millersville University (Nathan Schaeffer Scholarship Fund)

*Applicants must be currently enrolled at MU in an education program
