We’re thrilled to welcome Jessica Mailhot to our team as Director of Forever Lancaster! We know she’ll be a great asset to the Community Foundation, as well as the county, as she brings her wealth of experience to the new program focused on the education and building of our community’s endowment.
You’ll surely meet Jess at one of our community events soon, but until then, let’s get to know her a bit!
What’s your favorite food?
For savory it’s lobster (I am after all from New England) and for sweet – anything chocolate (Whoopie Pie, anyone?)
What’s your hidden talent or hobby?
My father is a carpenter and I worked summers with him for many years. So, my favorite thing is to buy an old, neglected house and fix it up and then move on to the next one. I do most of the work myself and live in it while it’s happening. I’m on my 8th house and almost done! But, I think I’ll stay in this one and start making more furniture.
What’s your biggest life adventure (so far)?
It would have to be sailing for 6 months (with my then boyfriend) through the Bahamas. It was just the two of us on board and we saw and experienced the most amazing things!
What inspires you to make our community extraordinary?
Though I wasn’t born here, Lancaster is my home. I moved away once (for work) and very consciously chose to move back. It’s the people with their hardworking, entrepreneurial spirit matched with their kindness and caring. Combine this with Lancaster’s historical architecture, robust city and gorgeous farmland – it’s really all anyone could want.
What’s a Lancaster County favorite of yours?
Of course Lancaster Central Market – because of all that it represents: the coming together of rural and urban, social gathering and food, supporting local businesses. I also love Sunday evening get-togethers with my neighbors and Mud Sales!
