"Giving back reminds us that we all have a place in this community...when we give with a compassionate heart, we know we're making a difference."

We love Lancaster with its vibrancy and energy and feel committed to seeing our community thrive.  We’ve made it a family mission to support organizations that match our values.  From the time our daughters were really young, we wanted to instill the importance of giving back to our community.

The Lancaster County Community Foundation is the perfect platform for us to do this because LCCF makes it so easy to see the various organizations in need in Lancaster.  It also helps us pass our own values to our daughters.  We established the Herr Family Charitable Fund as a way to structure our giving.  Each year, we talk as a family and decide which organizations to support.  It’s a lively conversation, especially now as our girls are older and are very vocal and opinionated about what they are passionate about.  We each care deeply about various causes, such as girls’ and women’s empowerment, education, animal welfare, and organizations that help sick children.

We feel good about giving back because it helps people in need.  The added blessing for our family is that when we give back, it feels so good and makes our hearts expand. Giving back reminds us that we all have a place in this community – in this world – and when we give with a compassionate heart, we know we are making a difference.
