And the winners are…

After months of idea incubation, more than $60,000 raised in crowdfunding dollars, and one extraordinary night of live pitching, the 2017 Great Social Enterprise Pitch has come to a close and gone out with a bang!

The final five ideas in the 2017 Great Social Enterprise Pitch presented to a packed house at the Ware Center on Friday October 6. After an incredibly tough decision, the judges crowned the winners!

 

1st place

Bridge

BRIDGE is a platform where people can book cultural experiences with local refugees, This builds a connected community and gives refugees a way to earn supplemental income. Join this movement to transform Lancaster from a simply diverse city to a connected and caring city!

 

2nd place

Meraki Mocha

Sierra Wood


Meraki Mocha will provide meaningful employment opportunities to individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability. Outstanding customer service and excellent products will aid in helping alleviate negative stigma.

Lancaster Fellow Foodies

Rebecca & Michael Bedenbaugh

Lancaster Fellow Foodies delivers meals that are easy to prepare with minimal effort because there is no shopping, meal planning, prepping or cooking involved. You simply place your order and once the meals arrive, you place one in a crockpot and dinner is ready when you arrive home! To produce and deliver the meals, Foodies will hire Lancaster residents who would otherwise struggle to find meaningful work, and pay them thriving wages, because all it takes is one good job to move a family out of poverty.

Language Beyond Borders

CWS, a refugee resettlement agency, has access to native speakers of many LLDs, as well as more common languages. We understand the training needed to be a professional interpreter and know how/where to access such trainings. Languages Beyond Borders, an social enterprise initiative of CWS, will supply the Lancaster community and neighboring communities with trained, professional interpreters in the languages that are needed.

Green Matters Natural Dye Company

Tyler Stoltzfus & Winona Quigley

Green Matters is a natural dye company that provides a service to clients that is not only sustainable, but gives back to our planet.

 

Congratulations to all eleven ideas who helped make this Great Social Enterprise Pitch so extraordinary, all 1,300 individuals who supported the ideas during the crowdfunding phase, and everyone who attended the live pitch!
