YMCA of the Roses
About the Organization
The YMCA of the Roses was established on December 1, 2021, through a merger between the YMCA of York and York County and the Lancaster Family YMCA. The two independent YMCA associations merged so that they could ensure the entire region would have access to a YMCA, leverage their communities’ collective resources for maximum impact, and utilize best practices from each county’s quality work. Together, the now six branches have been serving their respective communities for over 170 years. The Y’s Mission is to be a leader in developing and providing programs and services that enhance the spiritual, mental, and physical well-being of our community with a focus on healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility. The YMCA of the Roses serves Lancaster County across two branches, City Center and Lampeter-Strasburg. As of 2024, the YMCA of the Roses began operating the Clay Street Shelter, a low-barrier overnight emergency shelter solution, located at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Lancaster City. The Clay Street Shelter provides refuge to over 85 men and women a night who are experiencing situations of homelessness.
Why is endowment important to your mission?
The YMCA of the Roses continues to expand its impact across the Susquehanna River through enhanced youth development programming, charitable services, and wellness offerings. With a commitment to health equity and affordable programming ranging from Memberships for All to Childcare to Affordable Housing, the need for financial sustainability is essential to ensuring we can reach our neighbors in need and serve the community. The YMCA of the Roses has strategically planned to grow its endowment and secure its ability to respond to both anticipated and unanticipated opportunities and challenges. When someone chooses to support the endowment and leave a legacy gift, they become a member of the Roses Society. Through this group’s dedication to the Y’s mission, the YMCA has and will continue to be a cornerstone of Lancaster and York Counties, providing life-changing services to individuals from all walks of life.
