The Community Foundation is committed to honoring the story of Lancaster, and our proud history of being a welcoming community to refugees and immigrants.
To continue that legacy into the future, the Community Foundation is partnering with LancasterHistory.org, Church World Service, the Lancaster Chamber, as well as the New American Economy to create an immersive art exhibit that can be viewed in our Community Gallery through the month of August!
The exhibit will feature “Here, There is Welcome”, a comprehensive look at Lancaster County’s history of being a welcoming community to refugees and immigrants since its inception. Coupled with the panels will be selections from “inVISIBLE_americans“, a photography project that features the stories and faces of undocumented immigrants in the Lancaster community that works to raise awareness about DREAMers, in the hopes of creating a more open and safe environment for undocumented individuals in Lancaster. In addition, the experience will highlight important data from the Community Foundation funded study of New Americans in Lancaster, which can be viewed here.
We are presenting these exhibits together to honor the past, and embolden the future. Celebrating our immigrant communities, then and now, makes Lancaster County extraordinary.
New for August: an immersive Augmented Reality experience!
Using an app called Zappar, you can view exclusive content embedded throughout the exhibit that will enhance the experience and highlight even more insights into our past and present. Download it on your smart phone, scan the zapcode wherever you see one in the gallery, and view the content!
